26 / MAY / 08 - 1254 CST : Geek Tragedy's summer vacation...

Hey folks.

I wanted to let y'all know that I've decided to take the entire month of June off from doing the strip.

Well, not the entire month, as the current story arc won't finish off until June 3rd.  Which means that not including today's GT˛, there will only be two more full coloured strips and two more GT˛'s till the 1st of July.

There are a lot of reasons I feel the need to take some time off.  Mostly it's because I really need some extra time to work on a few non-site related issues that have been building up since...well, since I started doing the strip actually.

To be  bit more specific, I really need to take some time to try and develop the art career I wish to have outside of the GT universe.  First and foremost though I need to get a serious colour portfolio together that I can show when I go to the San Diego comic con this year.  Secondly, I really need to learn how to use Photoshop so that I can finally make the full transition over from my old (and I do mean old) version of Photopaint.

As well, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm also kinda looking forward to having a few days to just sit around the house and do nothing more than just read a damn book for a change.

Now, at the beginning of the year I made a promise to you guys that I'd have new updates every Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri, and despite taking the month off I plan to stick with that.  And no, this does not mean I'm going to be running a month of guest strips.  Instead I plan to post sketches, pictures, examples of some of my past and current commission pieces, and maybe an audio file or even a video or two (which reminds me, I'll also be working on the long neglected audio con reports next month).

Anyway, regardless of what it is, I will still be posting something on the days that I normally produce new strips.  So with any luck, by the time I get back from my little vacation, there will still be at least a couple of you out there still visiting the site.

Okay folks, now that I've given y'all an idea of what's coming up in the future, it's time for me to get back to work on what I've got to do at the present.

23 / MAY / 08 - 1511 CST : Flashing back on more time...

Hey folks.

Just a quick note for those of you who may not know or remember the strip that Noname is flashing back to, it can be found HERE.

Alrighty folks.  I'm way to tired to write much more right now, but I will be back Monday with and new GT˛ as well as nice long post about what my plans are for the site during the month of June.

Have a great weekend guys!

20 / MAY / 08 - 1645 CST : That figures...

Of course.  Mere moments after I go ahead and post today's strip on Myspace and then do the write up below, all of a sudden I can upload the new files to the server.

Yep.  It's all in the timing folks.

???? CST : Unable to server you...

Hey folks.

Not sure when this is going to be up for y'all to see, but once it is I wanted to let you know right away that the reason the strip wasn't posted till now was due to my inability to (once again) connect to Dreamhost's ftp server.

However, I was able to upload the strip to my...*sigh*...Myspace page (and good lord does it ever make me feel dirty to be forced to do it there).  So hopefully at least a few of you were able to check it out a lot sooner than now.

It should also be noted that if I do ever have the same server problems and find myself unable to post the strip on the site again in the future (and given how at this point I've completely lost all faith in Dreamhost's ability to provide reliable service, there's a good chance I could) it looks like the Myspace page will be my personal backup space for the strip.

Alrighty folks, that's it for now.  I'll (hopefully) see y'all again on Thursday when I post the next GT˛.

16 / MAY / 08 - 1527 CST : Keycon or bust...

Hey folks.

Well, this weekend I'll be heading on out to one of Winnipeg's local cons, Keycon.

Keycon has had, and I'm sure will continue to have, a special place in my heart.  Not just because it was the first weekend long convention experience I've ever had, or that it was the first real life event that I ever placed within the GT universe, but because of all the cool people I've met and friends I've managed to make there over the years.

And speaking of Keycon spawned friendships, I better wrap things up now so that I can catch a few Z's before I have to go and pick one Lar deSouza and his lovely wife Christie up from the airport.

Anyway, have a wonderful weekend folks, and I'll see y'all Monday!

12 / MAY / 08 - 0915 CST : Always take eye-candy from strangers...

Hey folks.

I have been severely lax with posting stuff in the news section here as of late, so in a effort to make up for that, I'll do away a lot of that boring text stuff I usually post here and give you nice shiny pics instead.

First off, here are a couple pics I took in Calgary at the Comic Expo (yes, I do plan to post all the pics I took there, I just haven't gotten around to doing that or editing the con report yet...hopefully it'll be done by mid to late September though), of a sketch that I commissioned out there, as well as a couple of the sketches I myself did.

This is a sketch I commissioned from Jo Chen at the con.  For some reason I got it into my head that she didn't do commissions, so if I hadn't heard the person in front of me at her table mention something about it, I never would've even asked.

When she asked me what I wanted her to draw, I told her I'd like either Chase or Old Lace from Runaways.  So the next day when I saw that she went a ahead and did both characters, I was totally floored.  I talk about this more in the audio con report (which I hope you folks will one day be able to hear), so I won't go on about it now.  However I do want to say that this is now by far one of my most prized possessions, and I will have it hanging up in my office the second after I get it framed!

Before the con I bought some coloured markers to see what I could do with them.  Unfortunately I only had five colours to work with, and I've never really coloured anything without the use of a computer, but in the end I don't think I did too bad for my first attempt.  I plan to do up a lot more of these to have on display at future cons so that maybe I'll be able to drum up some more commission work.

Here's a sketch of Spidey I did for a guy named Jeff who dropped by the table.  I'm still getting comfortable with doing sketches for people on-the-fly at cons, so I wasn't totally happy with how it turned out.  I messed up the eyes (which you can't see because they've been touched up in photoshop a bit), and next time I add in text, I'm going to have to take more care so that both it and the word bubbles don't look like they were done by a two year old.

Also, a big thanks goes out to Jeff for being so kind as to send me a scan of the pic, as I kinda forgot to snap a pic of it once I was done.  And speaking of photos, Jeff is a really talented photographer, so if you have a chance you may want to check out his work over at his site (however some of his stuff, while very tasteful, may be NSFW).

And last but not least, here's a commission piece I did up for my buddy Steve for his his fiancé's birthday.  I also plan to take this and turn it into a colour print once I find the time, but I feel I did a fairly good job with grayscale markers alone.

Alrighty folks, I'll be posting some more stuff in the few days (including the amazing sketch that Brad Guigar did up for my artist's edition of How To Make Webcomics), but I think I'm  just about done for now.

06 / MAY / 08 - 1908 CST : Maybe this is to make up for the third live action movie...

Just saw this and I figured I should post it quick before I head off to take a nap before work.  Not sure how the rest of the X-Men feel about Wolverine getting top billing here, but I'm guessing they're used to it by now.

1538 CST : I'm still alive...

Hey folks.

Been a while since I checked in and I know a few of you out there that I never get a chance to see anymore check out this section to just to see if I'm still alive so I want to assure y'all I am.

Alrighty, I'll try to swing on by tomorrow to give a bit more reassurance that my life-force has not been extinguished and hopefully give you guys an update on the con pics / report.

01 / MAY / 08 - 2120 CST : Shout, shout, let it all out...

Hey folks.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, tomorrow I'll be recording the audio con report for the Calgary comic expo, but in the mean time I just wanted to throw out a few pics and some shout outs to just a few of the folks who helped me out, as well as some of the fine folks who I met.

First and foremost I wanted to thank the immensely kind and caring Miss Grace for not just looking after my house while I was gone, but for helping me catch up on all the household stuff that I tend to let slide while I'm working on the site stuff week after week.  And also for going to the trouble of stocking my fridge with some bacon and eggs so that I might have a decent breakfast for a change.

Love ya babe!

Secondly, a big thanks to the real-life GT crew, Travis and Steve, for driving out to Calgary with me and helping me out at the table all weekend.  You guys may not think you did much, but trust me, you two were a big part of what made this convention such a great experience!

And now, while there were a lot of great folks who I met out there that I'll be sure to mention in the days ahead, I'd like to take this opportunity to drop some links to three of the cool webcomic creators that I was lucky enough to run into at the con.

First up, Alina from Were Geek...

Were Geek is one of the webcomics that I've heard great things about, but have never had the chance to check out, so it was cool to meet the artistic force behind it.  I had some time to talk and hang out with Alina and her boyfriend Layne (dude, if I screwed up your name, I'm really sorry, but I totally forgot to write it down and my memory generally sucks when it comes to names!), and I gotta say that I truly hope we'll get a chance to do it again sometime.

Oh, and Alina and I decided that it may be a good idea if we start our own webcomic feud, so here goes nothing...

Man, I tell ya, what kind of a hack uses the word "Geek" in the name of their webcomic.  I mean come on!  That's just...oh.  Crap.  Okay, so I guess we're gonna have to work on this feud thing a bit.

Next up we've got Giovanni and Frank (great name man!), from Fluent Gibberish...

This is the first time I met these guys, and truth be told I hadn't heard of their webcomic till last weekend, but now that I've had a chance to check out a few other their strips, it looks like I've got some got some entertaining reading ahead of me.  Also, I know that their hoping to do more cons in the future, so if you guys get a chance to meet them in person, be sure to pick up one of their posters and help support them a bit.  Or just tell them that Ed from Geek Tragedy says hi...though I'm guessing they'd prefer the extra cash more.

Oh, and if you look real close, you'll see that Frank is sporting a shiney new GT "Slacker" button.  Which of course means two things.  One, he's got great taste in merchandise.  And two, he is most definitely a true artist.

And last, but certainly not least, Jennie of The Devil's Panties...

I'm now two for two this year as far as doing cons that Miss Breeden has been at.  Which might seem like a rather cool coincidence if it weren't for the fact that the woman does about 87 cons per year!

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me about Jennie is that every time I've ever met her, despite the fact that she has just a killer travel / con schedule, she always seems to be so upbeat and happy.  Also, she's just about one of the most entertaining people I've ever met, and I don't think I've ever heard her tell a story that didn't manage to entertain the hell out of everyone around her.

Alrighty folks, that all for now.  I'll try my best to post a few more pics here and there leading up to the full con report, but in case I don't get the chance swing by and do that for the next few days, have yourselves a great weekend, and I come on back tomorrow when I post the next full colour strip.

Later,

-Ed

1212 CST : All in good time...

Hey folks.

Just wanted to give y'all a heads up to let you know that the newest GT˛ will in fact be up today, but I may take a nap first so it might not be done till later on in the evening.  Unless of course I get a second wind suddenly, but given how tired I feel right now that's looking kinda unlikely.

Still, I assure you guys I'll have it done and up before I go to work tonight.

Alrighty, back to work.

Later,

-Ed
