30 / OCT / 07 - 1422 CST : Two things before I vomit...

1) I am sick.

2) A new GTē will be up later on tonight that will most likely bitch further about the previous statement.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some liquid based food I need to go and try to keep down.

26 / OCT / 07 - 1938 CST : So I was half right...

Hey folks.

No new GTē today as I ran out of time before I had to head off to the con, but there is some filler art to make up for the lack of a new strip.  It's a little pic of, Rayne, from Least I Could Do that I did as a test.  A test which it would appear I failed.

Anyway, I'll see you once I get back from the con (or while I'm there if you happen to be dropping by).

24 / OCT / 07 - 1546 CST : A cheap shot...

In case you're wondering what I'm talking about as far as the new Captain America costume is concerned, you can check it out here.

To be honest, I wanted to do this strip the second after I saw the new design.  Well actually I was going to do one that showed the new Captain being carried away on a stretcher with two cops standing around talking about it, but that proved to be rather cluttered for one panel.

Anyway, like I said, I wanted to do it a while ago, but then I thought maybe I should give it a chance to grow on me.  The thing is, it's been about two weeks now, and it hasn't.  Not one bit.  In fact, the more I've looked at it, the more I've come to despise the whole ensemble.  Right from his little dainty red gloves, to that shiny, looks like it was designed by Wonder Woman, poncho looking thing.

And while I know a lot of people take serious issue with the gun, my biggest beef is that stupid, fucking canteen (which if you haven't noticed, appears to be Velcroed to his black unitard).  I mean really.  Why not just strap a bloody juice box or a Red Bull to him!

Well maybe a Red bull...

Now don't get me wrong, for the most part I'm not overly sensitive about changes to costumes and such when it comes to superheroes (though giving Spidey a new one every goddamn second issue is getting rather old), but in this case I take exception. Because in the case of Cap, at least in my opinion, his costume was perfection to begin with.

In fact, I always thought of it as more than just a costume.  It was a heroic symbol.  A symbol of comic's themselves.  And I can only think of maybe four other heroes that do that for me.  So when you take one away from me like that, and change something simply for the sake of change, it kinda leaves a bad taste in mouth.

*sigh*

Oh well.  I guess I'll just have to live with it for now.  Y'know, until they go ahead and change it back a few month after it debuts like they always do.

Wow.  That one paragraph I planned to write sure took a walk on the ranty side, huh?

I think maybe someone needs a nap.

0845 CST : The strips...

Hey folks.

Just letting you know that the newest GTē should be up later today.  After that, the next one will go up on Friday, and I'll be putting some filler art up to replace the main strip then as well too.  I'd love to do a new full strip that day instead, but I'm really pressed for time right now.

Then, after the con this weekend I'll know how things stand for next week.  And after all that, updates should be back to normal.

Okay, got a bunch of work to do, so I'll catch y'all later.

22 / OCT / 07 - 1626 CST : But enough about me...

Hey folks.

Well, now that Speedy Translation is over and done with, I'd like to once again thank Brooke from over at A Girl and her Fed for lending me one of the best written characters in webcomics, Speedy.  I just can't express how much I like that little bastard, and it was a huge thrill for me to be able to put a few words into his mouth.  So thank you, Brooke, for having enough faith in my abilities to let me run with one of your creations for a spell.

Another new crop of geeks are born...

And while I'm dropping links to other webcomics, I'd like to let y'all know about a new on that has just hit the web.

A couple friends of mine, Corey and Clayton, have created a little bit of digital magic called Meet the GeeksNow like I said, it's brand new, so there aren't many strips up yet, but what they do have to offer is looking good so far.  And I'm not just saying that because I know the creators, and both of these giants dwarf me physically to a spectacular degree.  No really, I'm pretty sure the two of them could bench press a truck if they worked together.

But luckily for trucks around the world they're currently only teaming up to tackle comics for now.

Okay guys, it's that time again.  I'm going to take off.  Before I do that though, I just wanted to remind you guys again that the updates this week may be a little delayed as I'll be putting a lot of time into getting my act together before the Manitoba Comic Con this weekend.

Alrighty, I'm gone.

19 / OCT / 07 - 2217 CST : Edible art...

Hey folks.

I promised y'all I'd be posting something delicious for you guys to look here today, and so I'm here to deliver.

My friend Christy has been practicing an art form for over year now, and she's reached the point where she's willing to share her skills with the world.  Well, maybe not the world, but at least the lower Manitoba area.

Christy makes custom cakes and cupcakes for people for all occasions.  She's just starting out right now, but if you take a look at the following I think you'll agree that she's doing a damn fine job of it.

Now personally, as someone who has a hard enough time boiling water, I can't imagine the work that goes into each one of these, but I do know they take hours to complete.  However I think we can all agree that they're totally worth the effort.

Well, I was able to get her to agree to not just let me display some examples of her work here on the site, but to also drop you her e-mail address in case any of you out there wanted to commission her to do a custom cake or cupcakes for some special event you might have coming up.  Keep in mind though, cakes don't really ship all that well, so I'm thinking she may not be able to do much for you if you live too far outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba (that's in Canada, btw).

Anyway, Christy can be reach via e-mail at christy633 (the 'at' symbol) yahoo (dot) com

So please, feel free to drop her a note and inquire about her work!

Okay, that's all for me for now.  I should have the next full strip up sometime tomorrow, but like I mentioned earlier in the week, my update schedule may be a little messed up till the end of October what with me trying to get some commissions done, and getting ready for the upcoming con and all.

18 / OCT / 07 - 1229 CST : Prep and press...

Hey folks.

I'll be stuck at work this weekend, so today and tomorrow are my only days off before the Manitoba comic con next weekend.  So at the moment I'm busy doing some prep work to get ready for it, which includes whipping up some new button designs and other prep work for a serious button making session tonight.

So unfortunately this means I'm going to be bumping the next GTē update to Friday, and the second full strip for this week to Saturday.  Sorry for the delay, but it's a necessary evil.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled to the news section tomorrow, as I'll be posting something delicious for y'all to look at then as well.

Okay, back to the buttons.

17 / OCT / 07 - 1343 CST : And while I have you here...

You may also want to check out The Good Guys. It's a super-hero reality show spoof created by, Sandeep Parikh.

Not only is Sandeep the same guy responsible for directing The Legend of Neil short that I posted earlier, but he also plays, Zaboo, in The Guild.   As well, he's currently the mastermind behind the site Effinfunny, which among other things highlights the talents of various standup comics.

So yeah, he's your typical writer, actor, director, webmaster / webdesigner.

I wonder what he does in his spare time?

But it's new to me, so I figured I'd post it any way.

15 / OCT / 07 - 0845 CST : Point form is for lazy folks...

And I fit that description perfectly so here we go.

- Made some small alterations to how Speedy looked in Friday's strip.  Mostly around the eyes and nose.

- Spent the weekend helping my uncle build some new front steps for my house (Thanks Uncle Gerry!).   And when I say help, I mean I let the man who knew what he was doing do 90% percent of the work, while I simply did my level best just to walk away from the experience with all the body parts I had when we started.  Anyway, this has caused me to get a little behind on the strip right now, so I've decided to post the newest GTē today, and I'll have the next full strip up either tomorrow or first thing Wednesday morning.

- After reflecting upon this weekend's "amount of physical labor Ed did" vs. "how stiff and sore Ed currently feels" ratio, I've come to the conclusion that I really am a tremendously out-of-shape pussy.

- Due to certain problems I've been having with my geektragedy.com e-mail accounts, not the least of which being a disgusting increase in the amount of spam I've been getting recently, it seems I've been missing a fair number of e-mails that some of you have been sending my way.  I just want y'all to know that I'm doing my best to rectify this problem, but in the mean time, you may want to include "GT:" at the beginning of the subject line in any e-mails you send me (especially if you're e-mailing me for the first time)

- Seriously wondering who the fuck would ever buy a product called Megadik.

- As part of trying to fix my e-mail issues, you may find that any reply you get from me will be sent from geektragedy (the lovely 'at' symbol) shaw (with a dot going here) ca instead of the address you sent your e-mail to.  This is far from being the ideal why I'd like to handle my e-mails, but on the other hand it is a whole lot better than the current "you e-mail me, I never get to see it / it gets lost in the land of spam, you never get a reply" method that's currently going on.

-Christy, I did in fact get your last e-mail, and you should have a reply by the time you read this (sorry for the wait).

- I will be trying to get the "Contact / Info" page for the site up (at long last) before this news post makes it's way down into the News archives.

- For the next week or so I'll be hauling ass to get all my shit together for the Manitoba Comic Con, and finishing off my current commissions as well, so I apologize in advance if any of the strip updates from now until Halloween are delayed / replaced with filler art.

- I...think I've run out of stuff to say.

12 / OCT / 07 - 2352 CST : Back at it...

Hey folks.

As you can see the strip isn't quite up yet.  I decided to grab some sleep earlier, but I'm back at it now, so it should be up by morning.

0845 CST : Revamp the old, in with the new...

Hey folks.

Just a few things to mention this morning.  First off, I went ahead and revamped one of the recent past strips, so you may want to check that out (if it looks the same to you, just hit "refresh").  The reason I tweaked this strip was that a few people were having a bit of trouble understanding what I was trying to get across visually there with the flipping from Noname and his mirror image.  And after I went ahead and took a second look at it, I had to agree.

Now I normally don't revamp past strips, as doing so would take up waaaay too much time (though I swear one day I'll go back and fix the few thousand typos / spelling mistakes I've made over the years), but in this case I felt that not doing so would actually be hurting the story itself, or at the very least confusing it a bit, so I figured it it was warranted.

The Kid's Book Project...

Seeing as how I've had that plea to support The Kids Book Project up for the lion's share of a week, I figured it was time to take it down and switch back over to the last strip (you can still find it over in the "Alt-Strip Archives" though).  However I would like to once again ask y'all to consider heading on over to TKBP site and putting in a pre-order for it.

Also, one thing I may not have pointed out previously is that I was one of the artists who have done up a page for it.  And while I don't want to spoil anything by showing you how the full page turned out, I figure it wouldn't hurt just to give you a small taste of at least part of one of the panels from it.

I'd also like to mention that I may be temporarily taking TKBP banner that's located up above the strips off in the next week or so to help promote a few Geek Tragedy related things that are coming up.  Keep in mind though that even if the banner is gone, they will still be taking pre-orders / orders for the book, and should be doing so well into December.

And late but not least...

The last thing I wanted to say was that I'll have the next installment of "Speedy Translation" up later tonight.  Sorry you guys had to wait so long for it what with me taking Canadian Thanksgiving off, but at least you had a couple more GTē's to keep you company during the down time.

Also, and this may not be of any interest to anyone but me, but I'm going to be trying something a bit different with creating this strip.  For the first time in a loooong time I'm going to trying my hand at doing the strip entirely on the computer.  Now I always do the colouring for strip this way, and about 50% of the strips are currently being inked digitally as well, but I almost never do my pencils with the Wacom tablet.  So if nothing else, this should prove to be an interesting experiment (though hopefully not an overly time consuming one).

Well that's all for now guys.  If I don't drop by before it's over, have a wonderful weekend!

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Wow, writing these news posts goes a lot quicker when I'm actually fully rested as apposed to when I'm a sleep deprived zombie.  Maybe I should try to them during these "awake" times more often...

09 / OCT / 07 - 1611 CST : Wish me luck...

Hey folks,

As today's GTē suggests, I'm about to do a bit of maintenance on my laptop today in order to try and fix a couple problems I've been having.  It's something that I've been putting off for a while now actually.  Not because I'm really all that worried that something will go horribly wrong (after all, I've got everything backed up should the worst happen), but because I just know it's going to be a long, and tedious process.

Anyway, I wanted to let y'all know that even though I most likely won't be posting anything here in the news section for the next day or so while I'm fixing things up, this bit of compu-voo-doo shouldn't affect Thursday's and Friday's strip updates this week.

Okay guys, time to get to work.  Wish me luck!

08 / OCT / 07 - 1100 CST : Late heads up...

Hey folks.

Sorry I didn't drop by on Saturday to let you know for sure that I would be taking today off, but with all the family, friends, and food (and a few other things that weren't so enjoyable) this weekend, it slipped my mind.

But while I have you here, please take some time and head on over to "The Kid's Book Project" site and pre-order one (or two) of these great books for Christmas.  Not only will you be helping out the incredibly worthy cause that is 'The Make-A-Wish Foundation', but you'll be buying yourself an extremely unique story that you can share with a child (even if that child happens to be  the one that lives inside you).  Plus, by making this project a success you'll be opening up the possibility that more like it will done in the future.

Okay guys, that's it for me.  I'll be back tomorrow with a new Geek Tragedy Squared.

Later,

04 / OCT / 07 - 1407 CST : I think someone needs a tissue...

Hey folks.

Yeah, today's GTē is pretty much based on fact.  At least as far as my suddenly getting allergies is concerned.  Actually, I'm thinking this really started back in Spring, but at the time I just shrugged it off as a minor cold that kept trying to take hold.  Now however, I'm convinced otherwise.

To be honest it's kinda pissing me off that after all this time having an allergy free existence, I'm suddenly having to deal with this crap.  I mean, if I was going to become allergic to something out of the blue like this, why couldn't it be cats?  Then at least when I'm over at someone's house and a cat starts rubbing up against my leg, I can shoe it off as I tell the owner ,"Sorry, I'm allergic."

'Cause let' face it, not wanting to touch someone's pet because it'll cause you to have difficulty breathing makes it hard for the them to be offended.  Whereas if you do what I do, and just tell them you'd rather not be exposed to any animal that seems to be the near unanimous pet of choice for thousands of crazy old broads around the world, they get all touchy.

Okay folks, that's it for me for today.  I'll see y'all tomorrow when I post the next full strip (and yes, it will in fact be up on time for a change).

Oh, one more thing!  Monday is Thanksgiving here in Canada, so I'm giving serious thought to taking that day off from doing the strip.  I figure if most of the rest of the country is going to be getting a long weekend off of work, why should I be any different?  If that's the case though, I'll be sure to give you a heads up about it by Saturday at the latest.

Alrighty, I'm outta here.

03 / OCT / 07 - 0847 CST : You can put the blasters away now...

1507 CST : Too funny not share...

Hey folks.

I was just taking a quick break from finishing off the strip and decided to check out what was going on in twitter.  One of the folks who's updates I follow there is, Hawk, from Applegeeks, and on his latest entry he dropped this link to the funniest damn thing I've heard in I don't know how long.  And after I listened to it, I just knew I needed to share it with y'all.

Seriously, this is for everyone who has ever been annoyed with telemarketers. Enjoy!

Okay, back to doing backgrounds.

01 / OCT / 07 - 1745 CST : I'm funny that way...

Hey folks.

Maybe it's just me, but when someone has reached the point where they're in need of calling a tech support office, I would just naturally assume that they've already tried consulting the great and powerful Google for the answers to their problem.  So when the "professional" (and yes, I use that term both loosely and mockingly) on the other end of the phone tells me that I should do a search to find some answers, I tend to get a little annoyed.

Not only is this type of answer both frustrating and insulting, but I feel it really shines a light on just how little certain companies care about their customers once they've made their initial dollar off them.  Besides, if the answers to all tech problems really were just a simple websearch away;

1) Shouldn't they themselves be using this wonderfully omniscient pool of data to bolster their own knowledge, and in turn use it to actually help the people who call them for answers for a change?

and 2) Why do any of these folks have jobs to begin with?

Sadly though, I find this type of thing happening more and more with various companies' tech support.  Which is exactly why I only rely on them as a last resort.  And when I do finally make that call, it's not because I feel they'll actually have an answer to my problem, but rather that I would just like some kind of confirmation to the fact that I am indeed fucked.

Okay guys, seeing as how I posted Tuesday's GTē today, you can now expect the newest full strip to be up tomorrow.  I would've posted it today, but there were a couple reasons I felt it would be better to wait. The first  being that I figured since Friday's update was posted so late I should keep it on the front page a little bit longer.

And secondly, because I...uh...didn't have time to finish it.

Alrighty!  Tune in again tomorrow to see the beginning of a new storyline, which, by the way, rumour has it will feature a very special guest star.
