29 / JUN / 07 - 0001 CST : Make a wish come true... Hey folks. The strip pretty much says it all. It's getting closer and closer to the date when The Kid's Book Project will be completed and it's time for us to all take a few more steps towards making this project a success. So for more info, or to place a pre-order please click HERE. However, if money is tight (and let's face it, we've all been there) and it doesn't look like a pre-order is in your future right away, then I implore you to help us spread the word about this worthy cause. Now aside from doing any one of the things mentioned in the strip, you can also click the smaller version of The Kid's Book Project flyer below to snag a full sized version which you can print up and post anywhere that will allow it. Still, I do hope that a lot of you out there can manage to place a preorder this weekend. Okay guys, I've got to get ready some stuff ready for my trip to the cabin this weekend, and yet still manage to sneak in a few hours of sleep before work. Oh, and keep in mind that I won't be getting back from the lake (where I will not be taking my laptop with me) till late Monday. At which point I will be headed back into work that night. So Mondays strip, may end up being just a sketch till I have more time to flesh it out. Okay, laundry calls. Later, -Ed **** 27 / JUN / 07 - 1030 CST : Chatter mode /on... Hey folks. I've got a couple things I wanted to cover today, so here goes. The strip... It'll be up later today. Most likely either the late afternoon or early evening. Also I'm heading out to the untamed wilds of Ontario on Friday, and won't be back till late Monday. What this means is that while there will still be strips up those days, Monday's won't be posted till late in the evening. As well, neither of them will be part of the current "Friends Overshare" story arc. The cons... I found out a couple days ago that Valleycon, one of the cons I was planning on attending, has changed the date it will be held. For those of you who have been keeping an eye on the con schedule I have up beside the strip you'll notice that it's new date now conflicts with the Manitoba Comic Con. And seeing as how I've yet to successfully replicate those cloning procedures I stole from Lar when I ran into him in Toronto, it looks like I will no longer be heading out to the Northern most of the Dakotas to check out Fargo's annual geekfest. I have to admit that I'm fairly disappointed by this turn of events, as Valleycon has become kind of a tradition with me and my partners in crime, Steve and Travis, but MB con was extremely good to me last year. As well, it's kinda shaping up to be quite the show, and the fact that it's taking place in my home town makes this decision a no-brainer in the end. On the upside though, this will be freeing up some of the money I had worked out for my con budget, which means I might just be able to squeeze in one more con before the years out. Not Wizard World Chicago though. It's just too expensive for me right now, and too close to the other cons I'll be throwing money into...well maybe. No, no...I won't be going to that one...most likely not. Okay, I'm still not 100% decided on that, but chances are I'll be skipping it till next year. Anyway, I'll let y'all know what other con(s) I'll be heading out to this year (if any) as soon as I know myself. In the mean time though, if you think of a particularly good one you feel is worth checking out, drop me an email and let me know. Keep in mind though, I'm looking for ones that are of a fair size, take place around fall or later, and are at lest two days long. In fact, come Monday I'm sure you'll find a little more light shed on this story line. Well, sadly I don't really have much more to say at the moment. I'll be working on a couple projects this weekend, as well as getting my ass in gear and finishing off the long overdue second half of the con report. But for now, I'm outta here. However it'll be up in the next couple hours or so. As for the second part of the con report, I had to push that back a little longer. I know it's customary for these report to be up for people to read sometime within the same year that con took place, so I'll do my best to stick to that. Okay, I better get back at it. Later, -Ed ** 18 / JUN / 07 - 1841 CST : "Friends Overshare - Pt. I" Yes, I know staging a story line during a blackout seems like cheating, but I swear I'm not just being lazy. And Speaking of lazy, the second part of the Paradise con report should be up tomorrow, so keep a look out for that. One thing I don't want to wait to do till the report is up (and something I thought I had done earlier in the week, but seem to have forgotten) is thank my friends Stephan and Kristen for putting me up, and putting up with me for a few days following the con. It was great getting a chance to see you two again, and hopefully we'll be able to do it again soon (oh, and I will get that speech to you soon...two three more months at the most). Well because I seem to completely lack the ability to edit down my writing I've gone ahead and broken up the Paradise Comic Con Report into two parts. The first of which is now up for y'all to read. Granted I still need to add some captions to the pictures I posted along with it, but at this point I think sleep is a bit more important. Later, -Ed ** 15 / JUN / 07 - 1738 CST : Con Sketches - Pt. II Hey folks. The regular strips will be back starting Monday, but for now we've got a few more con sketches. Also the con report will be up tomorrow. Well actually there's a slim chance it'll be up late tonight, but I'm not sure how late I'll be able to stay up tonight (it's back to midnights for me) so I can't be sure. Oh, and in case you were wondering, all the past "con strips" can be found in the Alt-Strips section of the archives. Okay, back it. Later, -Ed 1022 CST : Live and learn... Hey folks. Couple things. I may have to post a few more con sketches for today's update instead of a regular strip. I'm still hoping that won't be necessary, but after being away for a week I had a lot of stuff that needed doing yesterday and still more to do today, so I'm not as far along with the comic as I would've liked. Now for the second thing I wanted to mention. Unfortunately it would appear that I was...misinformed (aka: screwed over) as far as postage is concerned with the button sets that I sent out to the US. Which means while all the Canadian orders appear to be arriving, and in some cases have already arrived at there intended destinations, I'll have to resend all the US ones today when I head out to mail the orders that came in while I was in Ontario. So to you guys south of the border, I'm so very sorry for the extra wait! Well that's all for now. Later, -Ed ** 14 / JUN / 07 - 0951 CST : I am not an illiterate person... But I play one on the internet! Just letting you know that: A) I've fixed the typos in the last strip (is it any wonder why my mother is convinced that I don't even bother to read my own strips before I post them) and B) I'm currently working on the con report and should have it up on Firday / Saturday sometime. Later, -Ed ** 13 / JUN / 07 - 0817 CST : Fluid Thoughts... Hey folks. I don't want to be rude to my kind hosts here, so I'll be making this brief. Today's strip is about as autobiographical as I get. Yes, I somehow managed to miss out on all but a couple drops of blood splatter at the Evil Dead musical despite being in "splatter zone", and sitting right behind someone who got completely drenched in gore. And yes, shortly before the con opened it's door to the public, I managed to soak myself (most noticeably my netherlands) with a surprisingly volatile can of Jolt. I'll be sure to recap these parts of the the trip later on in the when I post my con report, but for now I'll let the strip speak for me. However I would like to thank Jennie Breeden for her small, yet thoughtful contribution to the flood relief efforts. And I'd especially like to thank Lady Yates for being kind enough to spare me a loooong walk with a wet lap in front of a few hundred people, and grabbing a bunch of paper towels for me. But I'm also still in Ontario visiting friends, so that's why I have written much here in the past few days. Dropping by for a sec to say that I just got back to the hotel after the last day of the con, and I'm alive and feeling fine. Okay, actually I'm sore as hell, developing a lovely cold sore (thank god this thing started on the last day, instead of the first), and thanks to the hot weather and my forgetting to buy more deodorant last night, I'm pretty sure I fit into one of those con stereotypes that I took to task in a previous strip. However I still had a hellova good time, so not even all that is getting me down. Anyways, I'll be doing up a thorough con report while I'm out in Barrie, ON visiting some friends for the next few days, so that should be up by Friday. As well, thanks to the brainstorm of Jediautobot (Carrie) on the forum, it looks like there will be a strip (of some sort) up on both Mon and Wed despite the fact that I'm away from my scanner. Okay, that's all for now. I think I'm going to go and treat myself to a pizza, what with this being my last night in Toronto and all. However, if I a have some time later on I'll see what I can do about posting a few pics of the trip. Sort of a sneak peek at the con report. Later, -Ed ** 08 / JUN / 07 - 2233 CST : A million spoons and all I need's... A freakin' scanner! Yes, it just now occurred to me that despite the fact that I did a sketch today to post on the site, I have no scanner out here. Which means I also have no way of actually scanning it into the computer to show y'all. Smart move on my part, I know. Anyway, I just got back a little while ago from having dinner with Lar and his lovely niece (after he took us on an impromptu tour of Toronto and beyond...way, way beyond!) , and I'm pretty much ready for bed now. After all, I have another big day ahead of me tomorrow. Only unlike today, this time it starts at around 9am. Later, -Ed 0730 CST : And so it begins... Hey folks. Well in a few hours I'll be heading off to set up my table at the con, and I have to say that now that I'm actually here and have everything done and set for promoting the site, I'm feeling a lot more at ease (also the plane didn't crash, so I thought that was kind of a good omen). Plus I had a chance to check out EVIL DEAD the Musical last night, and that's bound to put anyone into a greater state of relaxation (more on that later though). Now the con runs until about 8pm local time (EST) so I won't have much of a chance to post anything here until after that, but once I get back to the hotel (whenever that will be) I'll try to get some pics and hopefully a sketch or two up here for y'all to see. Keep in mind though I plan on doing a fairly thorough con report after this weekend is over, so I won't be going into a whole lot of detail when I post, but at least you'll be getting a taste of how things are going out here. Well it's about that time. Later, -Ed ** 06 / JUN / 07 - 1823 CST : Gone to Paradise... Hey folks. Well I'm just about to head off to the first major con that I've ever had a table for, and to tell you the truth I'm kinda stressed out about it. Partly because I have to take a plane to get there (have I ever mentioned that I'm none too fond of flying?), and partly because I keep thinking that despite the fact I have everything all planned out and ready to go to promote the site, I'm still convinced that I'm forgetting something important. However the big reason I'm stressed out is that I have no idea what's going to happen once I get there. Still, I'm pretty sure that there will be enough going on both at, outside, and after of the con that I won't be dwelling on my nerves for too long. Now, as for updates over the next week, don't worry. You won't be going without for very long. I've set my laptop up so that I can post some con sketches, pictures and whatnot whenever I can manage to find a wireless connection. I'll also be taking my Wacom tablet with me, so while you may not be getting polished strips coming to you in the next seven days, you should be getting something worth checking out. Unfortunately I can't guarantee the exact dates of when the updates will happen, though I will do my best to have them fall on the usual days you're used to. Okay guys, I'm practically falling asleep at the keyboard here, and I still have more packing and prep work to do before I can go to bed, so I'm gonna take off. I wanted to give you a bit more info about the Geek Tragedy Buttons that are up for sale right now. Due to the fact that I'm leaving for Toronto on Thursday morning, I will only be able to ship orders place by 9am Wednesday before I leave. Any orders placed after that will go out the Friday after I get back (June 15th I believe). After which all orders I receive will be shipped out on Tuesday of every week, until I run out. At which time I will do my best to order more blanks in, but there might be a bit of a delay. If that does happen though, I'll be sure to let y'all know. The Geek Tragedy button sets are now up for sale on the Store page. And yes, I realize that Sunday may not have been the best day to reveal this fact, but I just couldn't wait any longer. Besides, I'm sure I'll be throwing this info back up tomorrow once I have the strip up (and then in turn boring you to death with it a few other times throughout the month), so it's not like anyone who didn't drop by this weekend will miss it.
